A herd of deer wanders the empty streets of London. Two metres apart, two kilometres from home — the distance and reach of a growing child. Newly arrived from Rotterdam to Harborne, a leafy Birmingham suburb, Dijkers walks at night within that small radius. His photographs are not pictures of the night so much as the smell of it: damp green and moss-covered trees, the warm windows of houses one cannot enter. Excerpt from ‘A Clot in Time’.
