Britain's second city has spent decades remaking itself - demolishing the postwar concrete, building glass towers, hosting the Commonwealth Games - while its streets continue at their own pace, indifferent to the ambition overhead. Eli Dijkers worked across the city centre over several years, drawn to the friction between Birmingham's monumental past and its uncertain present: the classical facades facing empty lots, the shoppers moving through spaces still under construction, the people who inhabit the city on their own terms. These photographs are not about regeneration. They are about what regeneration leaves behind - and the lives that continue regardless.
