Eli Dijkers’ solo exhibition hosted till the end of August in Venosa.

‘Eli Dijkers, a visual artist of great aesthetic power, as underlined by Aniello Ertico, executive director of Porta Coeli International Art Gallery that strongly wanted this Dutch artist in Venosa. He graduated at the Academy of Photography in Rotterdam.

He brought his artworks to Basilicata for the Artist Residency he was awarded during the XI Florence Biennale. Four are Eli Dijkers’ aesthetic modalities: the human body and its relationship with the whole Creation,  and images of nature that, as written by the curator Melanie Zefferino, appeal more to the sensorial perception than to the mind. Then, urban suburbs appear too in his artworks, linked to the “scrap culture” Pope Francis frequently refers to, and the human face, never caught as a mere portrait but as a symbolic expression of moods. His is a formal interpretation, aligned with the principles of neuro-aesthetics: nowadays art interpretation doesn’t depend anymore on the semantic analysis of what is made by the artist, but on cerebral mechanisms, the so-called ‘resonances’ activated by art.’
